2022 National Age Championships Day 6

What a way to finish!

A marvellous Monday saw TSS close out 2022 National Age Championships with a bang.

A host of top performances and big drops with plenty of finals on a big last day.

Oscar Eddy swam two great finals taking 8th in the 14yrs Boys 50m Breaststroke and 5th in the B final of the 100m Breaststroke.

Jasmine Rayward was 8th in the B final of the 100 fly with yet another best time 😊

Hudson Sheehan showed his full array of skills with a brilliant 6th in the Boys 14yrs 400 Individual Medley – what a way to end the week.

Matthew Kalogeropoulos scored a brave 6th in the Boys 14yrs 200m Butterfly – how tough doing two in one day!

Bianca Rayward with one of her best swims of the week was cool calm and collected at the start of the Girls 14yrs 400m Freestyle and aggressive in the middle taking a wonderful Silver.

Thanks to all our supporters and parents for a wonderful week.
Travel safely and we’ll see you back on the coast soon.

2022 National Age Championships Day 5

A massive fifth day of racing with some very eggciting swims on Easter Sunday…

Sara McCarthy won her first ever National Age medal taking Bronze in the 13yrs Girls 50m Butterfly. One in a series of calm and confident performances this week – Sara finished strongly to take Bronze.

Kai Gilbert then stormed home to win Gold in the Boys 14yrs 200m Freestyle.
Hudson Sheehan took 6th in the same race – both boys with significant best times, composure and self belief to compete in the middle of the race – love to see it.

Bianca Rayward took 2nd in the B final of the Girls 14yrs 50m Butterfly and then 6th in the 100m Freestyle.

On a very busy day Kalani Creech was 10th in the Boys 15yrs 50m Butterfly, and 8th in the B final 100m Backstroke, having also made a good improvement in the heats of the 100m Freestyle.

MJ Lowe twice improved his 100m Backstroke best – taking 2nd in the 15yrs Boys B final.

Kalani, MJ, Hudson and Kai then came together for the14-15yrs Boys 4 x 50m Freestyle relay. All four boys stepped up to the challenge with great swims and were definitely filthy to finish fourth only 0.3 away from the medals. They should know, we are very proud of them and fourth in the country is no mean feat!

Special mention to Kalani who was asked to lead off the team and swam another best time!

We are fired up for the final day…

2022 National Age Championships Day 4

A Saturday with a silver lining on a night with a massive 7 finals.

Bianca Rayward fought hard for a Silver in the 14yrs Girls 200m Freestyle. Turning in second after the first 50m – she battled through to claim the Silver – very tough racing.

Kai Gilbert followed this up with a Silver in the Boys 14yrs 400m Freestyle. A massive second half of the swim so Kai chasing down the winner.
Matthew Kalogeropoulos claimed 6th in his first National Age final in the same event with a massive swim.

In another double final Kai Gilbert and Hudson Sheehan claimed 6th and 8th respectively in the Boys 14yrs 100m Freestyle

Jasmine Rayward swam another best time, improving from heats to final in her first National Age final the Girls 15yrs 400m Freestyle – finishing 9th.

Kalani Creech improved his performance again from heats to final claiming 5th in the B final of the Boys 15yrs 50m Backstroke

Swim of the day was MJ Lowe’s 200m Freestyle. After the heats MJ was tied 11th and so faced a swim off. What a great opportunity to improve his performance but how nerve wracking going head to head with only one other swimmer, in front of packed grandstand less than one hour later.

MJ executed his race better, swam his own race, went faster than the first swim and went a best time – unbelievable!

So proud of him.

2022 National Age Championships Day 3

A Good Friday in Adelaide on day three 😊

A fiercely exciting swim off saw Sara McCarthy seal a place in the final of the girls 13yrs 50m Freestyle. Sara then claimed 8th in the final.

A first National Age final for Hudson Sheehan saw him take 10th in the Boys 14yrs 50m Freestyle.
Kai Gilbert was 6th in the same final.

Bianca Rayward scored a hard fought Bronze in the Girls 14yrs 800m Freestyle

Kai Gilbert won a massive Gold in the Boys 14yrs 1500m Freestyle with a very well executed swim. Matthew Kalogeropoulos was superb finishing in 5th place.

The National Age Championships is fast, furious and unrelenting…we learn from our experiences and are ready to compete again tomorrow….
